Brief Profile:
- Operating budget of $3.5 billion
- Nine main sites covering 100 million square miles across 15 time zones
Organizational Environment
With significant budget cuts, increased global social-political instability, and the need to implement a service wide continuous process improvement system, command leadership requested assistance in developing and deploying an enterprise wide strategy to improve efficiencies and effectiveness while adhering to budget requirements.
Solution
Partnered with command leadership to translate the Guidance for Employment of the Force (GEF) to local, relevant terms. Then identified and mapped objectives, priorities and action items to each level creating strategy alignment for deployment.
Worked with the leadership at each site in developing their responsibilities to the strategy and trained troops on the continuous process improvement program as well as its effective use in solving problems.
Coached leadership throughout the command on change management and strategy execution to deliver results on initiatives. Facilitated organizational understanding and competency through classroom and real-world events.
Benefits
Adoption of a working model that quantified individual site contributions to the overall strategy. This has allowed adherence and provided transparency to the command budget while improving force readiness.
With this the commanding general was able to issue a policy requiring demonstration of how requested funds directly supported the strategy reducing potential political perceptions of funding.
